Network connection of Modbus RTU fieldbus components made easy

In industrial and building automation projects, the connection of different fieldbus devices in a network infrastructure is already known. The challenge is to connect different manufacturers with different protocol standards in a comprehensive IP network. Sensors and actuators on the fieldbus level, which communicate via Modbus RTU, must be integrated into a Modbus TCP network.

Modbus RTU Feldbuskomponenten

For the conversion of the Modbus RTU protocol into a Modbus TCP protocol, a Modbus gateway is used. The Modbus gateway is a Modbus RTU/ Modbus TCP gateway which primarily converts Modbus RTU protocols to Modbus TCP protocols (or reversed).

The METZ CONNECT Modbus Gateway MR-GW helps to integrate Modbus RTU devices into a Modbus TCP network and offers a very simple and cost-effective communication option of Modbus TCP clients with one or more Modbus RTU slaves.

Your benefits

    • connection of max. 32 Modbus RTU Slaves per line
    • Ethernet available throughout the building
    • no limitation to cable lengths
    • independent of technology and manufacturer
    • defined and default METZ CONNECT Modbus RTU slave devices

    Innovation and consistency

The MR-GW is easy and intuitive to configure and establishes communication from the fieldbus level to an IP network very quickly. The new Modbus Gateway provides the base for modern building automation systems. By simply adding and integrating METZ CONNECT Modbus RTU I/O fieldbus modules, METZ CONNECT offers a consistent product range for intelligent system components in building automation.

We offer more - Complementary METZ CONNECT products

The project planning of automation systems requires additional control cabinet, peripheral and network infrastructure components. METZ CONNECT offers an extensive range of products for comprehensive and transparent communication "from the field level to the management level".

    Features

The Modbus gateway MR-GW offers a high level of comfort connecting Modbus RTU fieldbus modules in an IP network:

    Status monitoring

02 mr gateway status klein (1)

The Modbus gateway provides an overview of the current connection status of the respective Modbus TCP client connections. The status, duration, all Modbus TCP client requests (including incorrect) and Modbus RTU responses are displayed.

    Simple Modbus RTU device search

03 einfache modbus rtu suchgeraete klein (1)

This function is used to search and display all connected Modbus RTU devices. Initial function tests can be performed and simple Modbus RTU commands can be executed.

Fast connection via jumper plug technology

04 schneller anschluss ueber brueckenstecktechnik klein (1)

The Modbus Gateway can be easily connected to Modbus RTU I/O components using the proven METZ CONNECT jumper plug technology. This not only reduces the wiring effort for the power supply and bus connection, but also enables seamless integration of the entire METZ CONNECT Modbus RTU module series MR-xx.

    Application in building automation

In many building automation projects, customers demand a consistent connection of all automation components into a structured network cabling inside the building. Fieldbus components, e.g. temperature sensors or measuring devices, usually have a Modbus RTU interface. They are integrated into the automation level by a Modbus TCP controller. The use of a controller is oversized in many applications, because of the complex programming and expensive hardware. The optimal solution is using a Modbus gateway. With the function of a protocol converter, the Modbus gateway enables simple integration of Modbus RTU slaves into a Modbus TCP network.
