More and more subjects in buildings (e.g. lightning, heating, ventilation…) are now networking in the world of building automation. Communication plays a very important role, which in turn requires standards to ensure that it functions safely and smoothly.

Here BACnet has developed worldwide as the standard communication protocol in building automation. BACnet has been standardized since 2003 in ISO standard 16484-5 and was established under the auspices of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). ASHRAE is a professional association of all heating, cooling, ventilation and air conditioning engineers in the USA.
