Screw terminal type 169

Pluggable screw terminal for a wide range of applications

Screw terminal type 169 - Pluggable screw terminal for a wide range of applications

Today, pluggable screw terminals are used in a wide variety of applications. One of the smallest possible screw terminals is the pluggable type 169 (RP013xxVBWN) from METZ CONNECT.

Simplified connection and disconnection with pluggable terminal technology

Pluggable screw terminals generally offer more flexibility than solderable connections. This becomes apparent in applications where, for example, a terminal device needs to be serviced. In the case of maintenance, it is usually necessary to ensure that the end device is free of voltage and current. The pluggable terminal technology facilitates this, as the PCB terminal can be removed in its entirety and not each connection line has to be disconnected individually. This can also simplify the commissioning of devices after maintenance and also make it safer. By plugging the terminal onto the pin strip provided for this purpose, it is impossible to mix up the connection leads and the board is thus protected against damage, e.g. due to an incorrectly connected power supply. With soldered terminals, the conductors must always be connected and disconnected individually, which is much more time-consuming.

Minimalist design for maximum flexibility

The pitch of 3.5 mm is the smallest in the area of screw terminal technology. The limits are determined by the dimensions of the screw. This allows small voltages to be transmitted in a small space. The Type 169 terminal thus supports the increasing miniaturization of end devices, such as those found in smart home applications.

With such a small grid dimension, it can happen that the connection terminal is inserted offset into the pin strip provided for this purpose. This can lead to damage to the end device, for example if the poles are swapped. The end user can eliminate this risk when selecting the pin header. It is important to ensure that the pin header has a closed tray. In addition to the hiding protection, there is also the option of providing the connection terminal with a coding. This offers even more security if, for example, several connection terminals with the same number of poles are used on a circuit board.

Extensive flexibility in contacting can be achieved by using the tulip contact. This makes it possible to contact pin headers with both square and round pins.

To ensure international use of the connection technology, it has been approved by both SEV and UL. This provides broad market access and makes it easier for customers to obtain approval for their terminal equipment.

These examples show that the Type 169 pluggable screw terminal block can be used for a very wide range of product design applications. This sophisticated terminal block has been an integral part of the METZ CONNECT product portfolio for more than 20 years. Consistent attention has been paid to ensuring a secure connection from the conductor to the printed circuit board.
